3 Important Things 2020 Has Taught Me!

Hello lovelies,

Happy New Year to all of you amazing girls and boys, women and gentlemen!

Well 2020, is there even a word to sum up what a nightmare of a year it was?

A global pandemic – that’s something you hear of in a history lesson in school and never believe would happen in your lifetime… well, we couldn’t have been more wrong! It’s like we’re currently living in a movie which we’re all just waiting to come to an end. Crazy!

World crisis aside, 2020 wasn’t a very good year for me overall and I certainly won’t be sad to see the back of it. It threw its fair share of rubbish at myself and my family but in turn, if I’m looking for a positive that came from 2020, it would defiantly be that it’s made us stronger and closer.

I actually think that the world going stir crazy over the last 12 months has taught me a lot. It has defiantly put things into perspective and I think I’m speaking for everyone when I say, we won’t be taking anything for granted ever again!

So I thought I’d kick start 2021 (that’s so weird to say!!) with 3 important lessons I learnt in 2020 which I’ll be taking with me into this year. Let’s get into it:

3 Things 2020 Has Taught Me:

Don’t Take Life For Granted

I think in one way or another everyone worldwide has realised that tomorrow isn’t guaranteed, therefore live for the now. No one could have predicted in 2019 that 2020 would be an absolute mess. 2020 has taught us all a valuable lesson that we should never take our daily lives for granted, as a blooming pandemic may hit and turn your year upside down. I know for me, I’ll never take seeing my consultants face to face for granted or the fact I had to so many amazing plans in my diary or being able to see my friends/family whenever I want – these are all things I clearly took for granted and I’ve now learnt that, I shouldn’t. Like I say, nothing is guaranteed and I’m determined that in 2021, I’m going to make the most of it. Make the most of what time I’ve got and fill it with happy memories, wether that’s indoors or outside!

Always Check In On Loved Ones

This is probably the most important lesson that I learnt in 2020. With 2020 having a global pandemic, I realised just how important it is to check in on your loved ones and make sure their okay. I think a lot of people have struggled with lockdowns taking place and not being able to live their everyday lives which in turn has had a detrimental effect on their mental health. Suicide rates have sky-rocketed and I just think people need to check in with their loved ones more often. Make conversations. Take their mind off their thoughts. Just be aware of people and how they may be struggling. I know for a fact I’ll continue to nag my loved ones by checking in with them and make sure they know I’m there, whenever they need.

Taking Care Of Your Mental Health Is Important

Mental health really took its turn on my family last year. Early last year my dad was diagnosed with bipolar (alongside being diagnosed with depression back when I was younger) and we saw first hand, the awful effects it had on him. His mental health really took a turn for the worst and honestly, it’s been really hard to watch. It got to the point we had to ask for help and I truly feel that asking for help is something everyone suffering from a mental illness should do. No one should ever feel ashamed or embarrassed when asking for help, nor should anyone ever have to suffer in silence. Taking care of your mental health should be your top priority, always! I’ve just learnt that taking time for you is so important and should always be at the top of your to-do list. Check in on yourself as mental health effects everything, including your physical health. Symptoms can be seriously deliberating, so please, look after yourself!

I’ve learnt some really valuable lessons in 2020. These 3 lessons in particular have really stood out to me and It just felt right sharing them with you today.

I’ve survived all of my toughest days in 2020 which is something I’m incredibly grateful for and will continue to keep reminding myself everyday in 2021.

I want to thank all of you guys from the bottom of my heart for the support I’ve received throughout 2020, it doesn’t ever go unnoticed and I hope you know I truly appreciate it. I hope 2021 brings you happiness and good health – that’s what everyone deserves afterall.

I can’t wait to share with you some of the amazing content I’ve got coming… get excited!

Sending you all tons of love & hugs as always,

Elle xo
