Hello lovelies,
I’ve seen everyone and their aunties, cousins, dogs ex girlfriend creating a batch of shortbread bars and you best believe I’m jumping on that bandwagon as my family do love a cheeky shortbread.
And what’s better than a bake that takes as little as 10 minutes to prepare, uses only 6 ingredients and is perfect for any baker of any skill set to recreate? I honestly don’t think you’ll be able to name me something better, I really don’t.
Eaten alongside a cuppa tea, these shortbread bars are such a crowd pleaser. my family gobbled these up in little to no time as they are the sort of bake which is easy to eat and despite using only 6 ingredients, has such a beautiful rich, buttery flavour.
These bars just melt in the mouth and the addition of chocolate mixed throughout takes it to the next level. It’s everything the perfect shortbread bar should be. Simple yet delicious.
So, if these shortbread bars sound like something you’d get great pleasure out of, you know the drill. Keep on scrolling below and you’ll find todays recipe.

Category: Sweet Treat
Servings: 16 Bars
Prep Time: 10 Minutes
Bake Time: 30 Minutes
Overall Time: 40 Minutes
Ingredients You Need:
- 200g Of Unsalted Butter
- 100g Of Caster Sugar
- 225g Of Plain Flour
- 75g Of Cornflour
- 2tsp Of Vanilla Bean Paste
- 300g Of Milk Chocolate, Chopped Small
How To Make The Shortbread Bars:
- Firstly, gather together your equipment and ingredients, line a 8” or 9” loose-bottomed, square baking tin with parchment paper and preheat the oven to 180C / 160C Fan / Gas Mark 4.
- Secondly, in a large bowl, beat together the 200g of unsalted butter and 100g of caster sugar until light and fluffy.
- Next, mix in the 225g of plain flour, 75g of cornflour and 2tsp of vanilla bean paste, at this point it will be quite crumbly.
- Now, fold through the 300g of chopped milk chocolate until evenly distributed.
- Pour the shortbread mixture into the prepared baking tin and using a spatula or your hands, press the shortbread firmly and evenly into the base of the tin.
- Sprinkle a little extra caster sugar over the top of the shortbread.
- Place into the oven to bake for 25-30 minutes, until golden brown.
- Once baked, remove from the oven and allow to cool to room temperature in the baking tin.
- Finally, when cooled, remove from the baking tin and cut into 16 squares, then serve.
That’s your Shortbread Bars prepared, baked, cooled and cut, ready for you to enjoy!
Notes:
- These shortbread bars can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week or in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
- You can freeze the unbaked shortbread dough for up to 3 months. I would recommend removing from the freezer and allowing to sit at room temperature for 10 minutes before baking.
- You can also freeze the shortbread dough fully baked for up to 3 months. I would recommend removing from the freezer and thawing at room temperature for 1 hour before eating.
- You can flavour this shortbread with any extracts you’d like and you can use whatever type of chocolate you prefer – the options for both are endless.
