See, I told you! I’m in my ‘cute halloween baking era’ and honestly, these little bat cupcakes I’m sharing with you today are quite possibly the cutest bake I’ve made to date. I won’t hear otherwise.

Despite them being a favourite biscuit of mine, it’s very rare that I actually use Oreo’s in or to decorate my bakes but they are one biscuit that is so versatile! You can incorporate a bunch of them into recipe to add some extra yumminess or you can create the cutest little oreo treats from just one biscuit, which is exactly what I did today!

I actually drew my inspiration from a picture I saw whilst having my nightly scroll on Pinterest! The oreo bat immediately caught my eye and I just knew I had to make my own version to share with you guys ASAP.

These are guaranteed to be an absolute hit at any spooky event this autumn. From making the kids scream with excitement to making the adults smile in awe, these oreo bat cupcakes are a must-try! Not only do they look good, they taste it too…

Servings: 12 Cupcakes

Prep Time: 10 Minutes

Bake Time: 15-20 Minutes

Decorating time: 20 Minutes

Overall Time: 1+ Hours

Ingredients You Need To Make The Chocolate Cupcakes:

  • 200g Of Stork / Unsalted Butter
  • 200g Of Caster Sugar
  • 4 Medium Eggs
  • 150g Of Self-Raising Flour
  • 1tsp Of Baking Powder
  • 50g Of Cocoa Powder

Ingredients You Need To Make The Vanilla Buttercream:

  • 200g Of Unsalted Butter, Room Temp
  • 350g Of Icing Sugar
  • 2tsp Of Vanilla Bean Paste / Extract
  • Purple Food Colouring

Ingredients You Need For The Oreo Bats:

  • 18 Oreo Biscuits
  • 24 Edible Candy Eyes

How To Make The Chocolate Cupcakes:

  • Firstly, gather together your equipment and ingredients, line a 12 hole cupcake tin with cupcake cases and preheat the oven 180C / 160C Fan / Gas Mark 4.
  • Secondly, in a large bowl, using a stand mixer or electric whisk, beat together the 200g of unsalted butter with 200g of caster sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Next, one at a time, beating well between each addition, beat in the 4 medium eggs.
  • Now, mix in the 150g of self-raising flour, 50g of cocoa powder and 1tsp of baking powder until fully combined.
  • Divide the cake mixture evenly between the 12 cupcake cases.
  • Place into the oven for 15-20 minutes, until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean.
  • Once baked, remove from the oven and leave to cool in the cupcake tin for 5 minutes before transferring onto a wire rack to cool completely

How To Make The Vanilla Buttercream:

  • Now that the cupcakes have cooled, it’s time to make the buttercream.
  • In a large bowl, using an electric whisk, beat the 200g of unsalted butter until loosened, light and fluffy.
  • In two/three additions, beating well between each addition, beat in the 350g of icing sugar and 2tsp of vanilla extract until a vanilla buttercream has formed.
  • Next, add 1-2 drops of purple food colouring into the buttercream and beat in until the buttercream is completely coloured purple.
  • Attach a 2D piping nozzle to a piping bag and transfer the buttercream into the piping bag.
  • Pipe the buttercream onto your cupcakes.

How To Make The Oreo Bat Decorations:

  • Once the buttercream has been piped onto each cupcake, it’s time to make and add on the oreo bats.
  • To prepare, you will need to split 6 oreo cookies, remove the cream centre and cup/break each oreo in halve so you have 4 semi circles per 1 whole oreo biscuit.
  • To create the bats, top each cupcake with a full oreo cookie and add two edible candy eyes for the face (you can attach the eyes with buttercream scraps, icing or melted chocolate).
  • Finally, for the bat wings take two of the oreo halves and insert them behind the face for the wings.

That’s your Oreo Bat Cupcakes prepared, baked and decorated, ready for you to enjoy!
