Category: Sweet Treat

Servings: 12 Large Cupcakes

Prep Time: 10 Minutes

Bake Time: 15-20 Minutes

Decorating Time: 20 Minutes

Overall Time: 1+ Hours

Ingredients You Need For The Chocolate Cupcakes:

  • 200g Of Baking Spread / Stork
  • 200g Of Caster Sugar
  • 4 Large Eggs
  • 150g Of Self-Raising Flour
  • 50g Of Cocoa Powder
  • 1tsp Of Baking Powder

Ingredients You Need To Decorate:

  • 150g Of Unsalted Butter
  • 300g Of Icing Sugar
  • 50g Of Cocoa Powder
  • 200g Of Nutella
  • Gold Coco Ball Sprinkles (optional)

How To Make The Chocolate Cupcakes:

  • Firstly, gather together your equipment and ingredients, line a 12 hole cupcake tin with cupcake cases and preheat the oven 180C / 160C Fan / Gas Mark 4.
  • Secondly, in a large bowl, using a stand mixer or electric whisk, beat together the 200g of unsalted butter with 200g of caster sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Next, one at a time, beating well between each addition, beat in the 4 medium eggs.
  • Now, mix in the 150g of self-raising flour, 50g of cocoa powder and 1tsp of baking powder until fully combined.
  • Divide the cake mixture evenly between the 12 cupcake cases.
  • Place into the oven for 15-20 minutes, until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean.
  • Once baked, remove from the oven and leave to cool in the cupcake tin for 5 minutes before transferring onto a wire rack to cool completely.

How To Decorate:

  • Now that the cupcakes have cooled, using a apple corer, a cupcake corer or spoon, remove the centre of each cupcake (TIP: don’t remove the complete centre of the cupcake, stop just before you reach the bottom).
  • Put nutella into a piping bag, cut off the tip of the bag and pipe the nutella into the centre of each cupcake.
  • Next, in a large bowl, using an electric whisk or stand mixer, beat the 150g of unsalted butter for 2-3 minutes, until loosened and smooth.
  • In small batches, beat in the 300g of icing sugar, 50g of cocoa powder and 2tsp of vanilla extract until a silky smooth buttercream has formed.
  • Transfer the buttercream into a piping bag with a piping nozzle of your choice attached (I used a Wilton 2D star nozzle) and pipe the buttercream in a ring around the edges of the cupcakes, leaving the centre clear.
  • Using the remaining nutella in the piping bag, pipe more nutella into the centre of each cupcake until it reaches the top of the buttercream.
  • Add some gold choco ball sprinkles onto each cupcake.
  • Finally, place the cupcakes into the fridge for 10 minutes to allow the buttercream to set and then, serve.

That’s your Nutella Cupcakes prepared, baked and decorated, ready for you to enjoy!

Notes:

  • These cupcakes should be stored in the refrigerator and will last for up to 4 days.
  • However, for the freshest taste, I would recommend eating on the day of making.
  • You can freeze the finished cupcakes in an airtight container for up to 1-2 months. To thaw, I would recommend removing from the freezer and placing into the fridge overnight.

What I love about these cupcakes is how simple they are to make, bake and decorate!

Adding something as simple as the nutella centre is the perfect way of elevating and taking your cupcakes to the next level. Plus, who wouldn’t love to bite into a chocolate cupcake and be met with a nutella centre? Beats me.

Let me know in the comments below if you make these cupcakes yourself and if you do, what your thoughts are on them. Are you a nutella lover? Do these cupcakes have you salivating?

Sending you all tons of love & hugs as always,

Elle xo
