Hello lovelies,
If there’s one thing you should know about me, I’m quite the churro connoisseur!
I’ve tried my fair share of churros over the years, both in the UK and different parts of Spain. They are one of all time my favourite sweet treats, if they’re on the menu – you can bet your life I’m buying and trying. It’s not a want, it’s a need.
I’ve seen these viral churro cookies circling the internet for a while now and it’s only right, as a churro lover that I make a batch and try them for myself… right?
That’s exactly what I did and let’s just say, these cookies certainly didn’t disappoint!
There’s two things I truly adore about churros: the first being the way they are rolled in a cinnamon sugar mixture, so I therefore, rolled my cookies in the same mixture. Secondly, when you dunk warm churros in chocolate, I therefore, have given these cookies a gooey chocolate hazelnut spread centre.
It’s as good as it sounds, I promise.
So, if you’d like to recreate these churro cookies yourself, then you know the drill by now. Keep on scrolling below and you’ll find today’s recipe.

Category: Sweet Treat
Servings: 12 Cookies
Prep Time: 10 Minutes
Freeze Time: 24 Hours
Chill Time: 1 Hour
Overall Time: 24 Hours
Ingredients You Need For The Cookies:
- 12tbsp Of Chocolate Hazelnut Spread, Heaped & Frozen
- 125g Of Unsalted Butter
- 100g Of Light Brown Sugar
- 75g Of White Granulated Sugar
- 1 Egg
- 300g Of Plain Flour
- 1.5tsp Of Baking Powder
- 1/2tsp Of Bicarbonate Of Soda
- 2tsp Of Ground Cinnamon
- 150g Of Milk Chocolate Chips
Ingredients You Need For The Cinnamon Sugar:
- 100g Of Demerara Sugar
- 1tsp Of Ground Cinnamon
How To Make The Stuffed Cookies:
- Firstly, the night before making the cookies, portion and freeze the chocolate hazelnut spread.
- Secondly, the next day, gather together your equipment and ingredients and line two baking trays with parchment paper.
- Now, in a small bowl, mix together 100g of demerara sugar and 1tsp of ground cinnamon, then set to one side.
- In a large bowl, beat together the 125g of unsalted butter with 100g of light brown sugar and 75g of white granulated sugar until creamy.
- Next, add the 1 large egg and beat again.
- Add the 300g of plain flour, 2tsp of ground cinnamon, 1.5tsp of baking powder and 1/2tsp of bicarbonate of soda and beat again until a cookie dough has formed.
- Now, add the 150g of chocolate chips and beat again until evenly distributed throughout the cookie dough.
- Weigh the cookie dough out into 12 equal sized cookie dough balls (mine weighed around 82g each).
- Once rolled into balls, press the cookie dough into the palm of your hand and add one piece of the frozen chocolate hazelnut spread and then wrap the cookie dough around the frozen spread. Repeat this step for each cookie dough ball.
- Then, roll each cookie dough in the cinnamon sugar, making sure it’s coated well.
- Chill the cookies in the refrigerator for 1 hour or the freezer for 30 minutes.
- Whilst the cookies are chilling, preheat the oven to 200C / 180C Fan / Gas Mark 5.
- Remove the cookies from the fridge after 1 hour then, place 6 cookies on each prepared baking tray.
- Bake the cookies for 12-15 minutes.
- Finally, once baked, remove from the oven and allow the cookies to cool slightly on the tray before transferring onto a wire rack to cool completely. They are then ready to be served,
That’s your Churro Cookies prepared, chilled, baked and cooled, ready for you to enjoy!
Notes:
- These cookies will last for 3-4 days stored in an airtight container at room temperature.
- You can freeze the baked or raw cookies for up to 3 months.
- If you want a gooey centre, I would recommend heating the baked cookies for 20-30 seconds in the oven or microwave.
- I brought the supermarkets own brand of chocolate hazelnut spread but any spread will work perfectly.

I just love how you can actually compare these to a proper churro.
The cinnamon running throughout, the cinnamon sugar coating with the chocolate hazelnut spread centre – it takes me back to demolishing a batch of churros whilst watching the sun set in sunny Spain. Heavenly!
Let me know in the comments below if you make these cookies yourself and if you do, what your thoughts are on them. Are you a churro lover? Could you get the churro vibe through these cookies?
Sending you all tons of love & hugs as always,
Elle xo
