Puff Pastry Nutella Mummies Recipe | Halloween Bakes 2024!

Hello lovelies,

I can’t believe it’s the 30th of October already, it’s crazy how fast this year is passing us by. I swear as I get older, the years get faster. Anyone else feel the same?

I couldn’t let halloween pass by without one more unbelievably delicious recipe which is perfect to make if you’re in a last minute rush and want to make create something spooky that the little ones in your life will love.

If I’m being honest, I was slightly lost on what to create for my final halloween post this year. I’ve had so many ideas rattling round in my head that I ending up making myself slightly overwhelmed. Then, I noticed that i’d been seeing these ‘puff pastry mummies’ all over my instagram and pinterest page, (if I’ve seen them once, I’ve seen them a hundred times) and each persons version looked absolutely incredible, so I took seeing those posts over and over again as my sign to make a batch of my own.

Boy, am I pleased I did as I’m obsessed with the outcome of today’s recipe!

It really is one of those recipes which is ridiculously quick and easy to make, tastes utterly delicious and the end result will always look absolutely amazing! It’s an absolute must try.

Oh, and did I mention that it’s got a nutella & banana filling? If that doesn’t convince you that you need to make these mummies this halloween, I don’t know what will…

So, if you’d like to make these puff pastry mummies yourself, you know the drill. Keep on scrolling below and you’ll find today’s recipe.

Category: Sweet Treat

Servings: 8 Mummies

Prep Time: 15 Minutes

Chill Time: 20 Minutes

Bake Time: 15-18 Minutes

Decorating Time: 5 Minutes

Overall Time: 1+ Hours

Ingredients You Need For The Puff Pastry Mummies:

  • 2x Ready-To-Roll Puff Pastry Sheets
  • Jar Of Nutella
  • 2 Medium Sized Bananas, Sliced Very Thinly
  • 4tbsp Of Milk
  • 2tsp Of Granulated Sugar
  • 16 Edible Candy Eyes

How To Make The Puff Pastry Mummies:

  • Firstly, gather together your equipment and ingredients, line two baking trays with parchment paper and preheat the oven to 200C / 180C Fan / Gas Mark 4.
  • Secondly, on a lightly floured surface, unroll the puff pastry sheets (TIP: use a rolling pin to slightly flatten any wrinkles in the pastry).
  • Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut one whole sheet of puff pastry and half a sheet from the other puff pastry into rectangles (approximately 10cm x 7cm).
  • Transfer the puff pastry rectangles onto the prepared baking tray and into the fridge to chill for 20 minutes.
  • Then, cut the remaining half a sheet of puff pastry into thin strips.
  • Once the 20 minutes is up, remove the pastry from the fridge and using a spoon, spread some nutella into the centre of each rectangle.
  • Top the nutella with 5 or 6 thin slices of fresh banana.
  • Brush a layer of milk around the outer edges of pastry.
  • Lay the thin strips of pastry over the filling in a zigzag pattern, creating a ‘mummy’ effect. Repeat this step for each pastry rectangle.
  • Using a fork, seal the edges of the pastry mummies, making sure that the thin strips are pressed down into the edges so that they don’t lift whilst they are baking.
  • Brush the pastry with the remaining milk and sprinkle over some granulated sugar.
  • Place the pastry mummies into the oven and bake for 15-18 minutes, until golden brown in colour and the pastry is flakey.
  • Once baked, remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before transferring onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Finally, when completely cooled, place two edible candy eyes in a gap between the pastry strips (the puff pastry must be completely cooled otherwise the candy eyes will melt). Repeat this step for each mummy.

That’s your Puff Pastry Nutella Mummies prepared, baked and decorated, ready for you to enjoy this Halloween!

Notes:

  • These can be stored at room temperature, in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • These can be served at room temperature or re-heated.
  • You can use any milk you prefer.
  • I got the edible candy eyes from: https://amzn.eu/d/5tHH32A
  • You don’t have to have nutella and bananas as the filling, you could use any fillings of your choice as long as you don’t overfill the pastries as the filling will seep out the edges.

How damn cool are these?

So simple yet so effective! I think these will go down an absolute treat with the little ones. Not only do they look cool, but taste delicious also!
