Mini Chocolate Baked Donut Easter Nests Recipe | Easter Bakes 2024!

You guys know me well enough by now to know I love me a baked donut! I love baking them, I love decorating them and most importantly, I love sharing them with you guys.

So when I saw a recipe for Easter nest baked donuts, you best believe I clicked straight on that recipe and got to making them (I don’t need much persuading to get my donut tins out, I really don’t haha).

Though, I can’t take credit for today’s incredible donuts, this is a recipe written by the unbelievably talented Kat, known as ‘The Baking Explorer’ online!

Kat really has created something blooming beautiful here! These aren’t any old donuts, these are donuts filled with chocolatey goodness which is exactly what you want during this Easter period. Don’t you agree?

{ Kat’s Original Recipe: }

In my humble opinion, these are the best, yes I said BEST donuts I have made to date. Kat really did excel herself.

Servings: 18 Donuts

Prep Time: 10 Minutes

Bake Time: 12-15 Minutes

Decorating Time: 10 Minutes

Ingredients You Need For The Donuts:

  • 175g Of Caster Sugar
  • 30ml Of Vegetable Oil
  • 175ml Of Semi-Skimmed Milk
  • 2 Large Eggs
  • 200g Of Self-Raising Flour
  • 30g Of Cocoa Powder
  • 100g Of Milk Chocolate Chips

Ingredients You Need To Decorate:

  • 150g Of Milk Chocolate
  • 3 Flake Bars, Crushed Into Crumbs
  • Large Bag Of Mini Eggs

How To Make The Donuts:

  • Firstly, gather together your equipment and ingredients, grease a 12 hole donut tin well and preheat the oven to 180C / 160C Fan / Gas Mark 4.
  • Secondly, in a large bowl, whisk together the 175g of caster sugar, 30ml of vegetable oil, 175ml of semi-skimmed milk and two large eggs together until combined.
  • Next, whisk in the 200g of self-raising flour and 30g of cocoa powder until combined.
  • Fold in the 100g of milk chocolate chips.
  • Pour the donut batter into a piping bag, snip the tip of the piping bag off and pipe the donut batter into the donut tins until 3/4 full.
  • Place the donuts into the oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean.
  • Once baked, remove from the oven and allow to cool for 10 minutes before carefully transferring the donuts onto a wire rack to cool completely.

How To Decorate The Donuts:

  • When the donuts have cooled, it’s time to decorate.
  • In a microwavable bowl, add 150g of milk chocolate and place into the microwave. In 20 second blasts, blast the chocolate until it’s fully melted.
  • Dip the top half of the donut into the melted chocolate and then place back onto the wire rack.
  • Sprinkle the crushed flake over the top of the donuts whilst the chocolate is still wet.
  • Finally, allow the chocolate to harden before placing two-three mini eggs into the centre of each donut.

That’s your Mini Chocolate Baked Donut Easter Nests prepared, baked and decorated, ready for you to enjoy this Easter!

How damn good do these finished donuts look. Oozing all that chocolate goodness, honestly, what more could you want from a donut?

I made these and I can hand on heart say, I think they lasted a couple of days, if that! After handing them out to family and friends, these donuts were well and truly demolished. That’s always a sign of a good recipe!
