Category: Sweet Treat

Servings: 20

Prep Time: 10 Minutes

Bake Time: 15-17 Minutes

Decorating Time: 10 Minutes

Overall Time: 40-60 Minutes

Ingredients You Need For The Pastries:

  • 2x Ready-To-Roll Puff Pastry
  • 1 Jar Of Duo Chocolate Spread
  • Dash Of Milk
  • Demerara Sugar

Ingredients You Need To Decorate:

  • 150g Of Unsalted Butter
  • 200g Of Icing Sugar
  • 30g Of Cocoa Powder
  • 2x Packets Of M&M Milk Chocolate Eggs

How To Make The Pastries:

  • Firstly, gather together your equipment and ingredients, line two baking trays with parchment paper and preheat the oven to 200C / 180C Fan / Gas Mark 5.
  • Secondly, remove one of the ready-to-roll pastries from the fridge and immediately unroll, leaving the baking paper underneath (TIP: if there’s any breakages, using the warmth of your finger tips, gently push the pastry back together again).
  • Dollop 3-4 heaped tablespoons of duo chocolate spread onto the pastry and using a palette knife, spread the chocolate spread over the entirety of the pastry.
  • Now, remove the second ready-to-roll pastry from the fridge, immediately unroll and fold over the top of the chocolate spread.
  • Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, cut the pastry into strips from top to bottom (TIP: cut as thick as you’d like them, however, I find the thinner strips work better to give the nests shape).
  • Twist the strips (not too tightly but not too loosely) and then roll into spirals.
  • Place 6 spirals onto each of the baking trays with room between each spiral to allow to spreading.
  • Brush the top of each spiral with a dash of milk and sprinkle over a light layer of demerara sugar.
  • Place the spirals into the oven and allow to bake for 15-17 minutes, until the pastry is golden in colour.
  • Once baked, remove from the oven and allow to cool on the baking tray for 10 minutes, then carefully transfer onto a wire rack to cool completely.

How To Decorate:

  • When the pastries have cooled, it’s time to make the buttercream.
  • In a large bowl, using an electric whisk, beat the 150g of unsalted butter until loosened, light and fluffy.
  • In two/three additions, beating well between each addition, beat in the 200g of icing sugar and 30g of cocoa powder until a chocolate buttercream has formed.
  • Next, attach a 2D piping nozzle to a piping bag and transfer the buttercream into the piping bag.
  • Pipe the buttercream onto the centre of your pastries.
  • Finally, add 2-3 little M&M chocolate eggs into the centre of the buttercream.

That’s your Puff Pastry Easter Nests prepared, baked and decorated, ready for you to enjoy this Easter.
