Brownie Mummies Recipe!

Hello lovelies,

With only 1 day left until halloween, I wanted to share with you a last minute bake which is super easy for you to make, bake and decorate and of course, is utterly scrumptious!

During the festive season last year, I brought these oven-safe ‘gingerbread men’ moulds and over the following weeks, I played around with them, learning different ways in which they can be used.

Believe it or not, the options on what you can do with these moulds (because they are oven-safe) is endless. However, I’ve found one of my favourite ways to use them is by filling them with brownie batter.

Once filled with brownie, baked and chilled, these moulds create the perfect plain brownie people which can be decorated however you want – in today’s case, I chose to decorate them as spooky mummies and not to toot my own horn, but these came out perfect!

I mean, there aren’t many people that will turn down a cheeky slice of brownie when it’s just plain, let alone the joy they will bring to all generations once decorated.

So, if these brownie mummies have caught your eye and got you wanting to know how to make a batch of your own, you know the drill. Keep on scrolling below and you’ll find today’s recipe.

Category: Halloween, Brownies, Sweet Treat

Servings: 16-20 Mummies

Prep Time: 15 Minutes

Bake Time: 20-25 Minutes

Chill Time: 4 Hours

Decorating Time: 10 Minutes

Overall Time: 5+ Hours

Ingredients You Need For The Brownie Mummies:

  • 200g Of Dark Chocolate
  • 200g Of Unsalted Butter
  • 275g Of Caster Sugar
  • 4 Medium Eggs
  • 100g Of Plain Flour
  • 50g Of Cocoa Powder
  • 200g Of Milk Chocolate Chips

Ingredients You Need For Decorating:

  • 150g Of White Chocolate
  • Edible Candy Eyes

How To Make The Brownie Mummies:

  • Firstly, gather together your equipment and ingredients, throughly grease the gingerbread men moulds with butter (making sure you get into every nook and cranny) and preheat the oven to 180C / 160C Fan / Gas Mark 4.
  • Secondly, in a microwavable bowl, add both the 200g of dark chocolate and 200g of unsalted butter, place the bowl into the microwave and in 20 second blasts, blast the butter/chocolate until fully melted.
  • When both the ingredients have melted, remove from the microwave, mix together until combined then place to one side to cool to room temperature.
  • Now, in a large bowl, using an electric whisk, whisk together the 3 large eggs with the 275g of caster sugar for around 8 minutes, until the colour has turned pale, the mixture is mousse like and the volume has doubled in size (TIP: you will know it’s done when you lift the whisk up out from the mixture and it should leave a trail for a couple of seconds, before disappearing).
  • Once whisked, pour the melted and cooled chocolate/butter mixture over the eggs and very carefully fold together (TIP: being careful and patient is crucial at this stage because you don’t want to knock the air out of the mixture).
  • When combined, sift in the 100g of plain flour, 50g of cocoa powder and 200g of milk chocolate chips and carefully fold into the mixture.
  • Transfer the finished brownie batter into a large piping bag, snip the tip of the piping bag off (the hole you cut needs to be big enough for chocolate chips to go through).
  • Pipe the brownie batter into the thoroughly greased gingerbread men moulds until 2/3rds full (making sure the brownie batter is evenly piped into the mould otherwise your going to have some funky shaped brownie people once baked).
  • Once all the moulds are filled, carefully put the moulds onto a baking tray and place them into the oven, bake for 20-25 minutes until set.
  • When baked, remove from the oven and allow to cool right down to room temperature before transferring into the fridge (whilst still in the moulds) for a minimum of 4 hours.

How To Decorate:

  • Now that the baked brownies have finished chilling, remove them from the fridge and very carefully remove the brownie people from the moulds. It’s very important you take your time whilst removing them from the moulds as you don’t want them to break.
  • In a microwaveable bowl, add 150g of white chocolate, place into the microwave and in 10 second blasts, blast the chocolate until fully melted.
  • Transfer the melted white chocolate into a piping bag, snip the very tip of the piping bag off and pipe lines in all different directions across the brownie people until they look like mummies.
  • Add two edible candy eyeballs to each mummy.
  • Finally, once all the mummies have been decorated, place the mummies back into the fridge for 10-15 minutes until the chocolate has hardened. Then, serve.

That’s your Brownie Mummies prepared, baked and decorated, ready for you to enjoy this halloween.

Notes:

  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days or in the refrigerator for up to 7 days.
  • For the best results, I would personally recommend chilling in the fridge for a minimum of 4 hours. Not only will this give you a firm but perfectly fudgy brownie but it will also help aid when trying to remove the brownie people from the moulds.
  • If you fancy a gooey brownie, I would recommend heating in the microwave for 20 seconds or so. However, be aware that the candy eyes will melt also.
  • You can totally adapt this recipe by using adding any ingredients or flavours you’d prefer.
