Hello lovelies,
We all know about the famous Lemon Drizzle Cake… right? It’s got to be one of the most loved cakes in Britain, if not, the world.
It’s a huge favourite in this house (with my mum especially) so when I heard about an Orange Drizzle, I just knew I had to give it a go!
I absolutely love the fact that this cake is so simple. There’s little ingredients and there’s no decorating – it’s one of those cakes that is all about the taste and damn, are you in for a treat with this one.
A simple sponge flavoured with orange which has a simple orange drizzle to top it off – it doesn’t sound that advertising when I put it like that, but if I was to sum this cake up in one word, it would be FLAVOURSOME.
If you’d like to make this quick & easy Orange Drizzle cake yourself, the recipe is below:

Category: Desert / Sweet Treat
Serves: 6
Prep Time: 10 Minutes
Cook Time: 20–25 Minutes
Overall Time: 35 Minutes
Ingredients You’ll Need To Make The Cake:
- 175g Of Caster Sugar
- 110g Of Butter Or Margarine
- 2 Medium Sized Eggs, Beaten
- 175g Of Self-Raising Flour
- 1/2tsp Of Baking Powder
- Zest & Juice Of One Orange
- 3tbsp Of Milk
Ingredients You’ll Need To Make Topping:
- Juice Of One Orange
- 3tbsp Of Icing Sugar
How To Make The Cake:
- Firstly, gather together your equipment and ingredients, grease a 7inch tin with butter and preheat your oven to 190C / 170C Fan / Gas Mark 5.
- Secondly, in a large bowl, cream together the 175g of caster sugar with 110g of butter until light and fluffy.
- Next, mix in the 2 beaten eggs, zest of the orange and half the juice of the orange.
- Now, fold in the 175g of self raising flour with the 1/2tsp of baking powder.
- If the mixture is a little thick, slacken the mixture with 3tbsp of milk so the mixture is soft and spoonable.
- Pour the mixture into the greased baking tin and place in the oven for around 20 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the cake springs back when you touch it.
- Once cooked, leave in the cake tin.
How To Make The Topping
- Around 5 minutes before the cake is ready to come out the oven, it’s time to prepare the topping.
- In a small bowl, mix together the juice of one orange and 3tbsp of icing sugar.
- Place the bowl into the microwave and in 10 second blasts, microwave the juice until the icing sugar has dissolved (TIP: mine took around 30 seconds).
- Then, once the cake is out the oven, using a knife or a skewer, prick holes all over the top of the cake.
- Drizzle the orange topping all over the top of the cake.
- Leave the cake in the tin for around 15 minutes before transferring onto a wire rack to cool further.
- Finally, if you have a spare orange lying around, before serving, slice the orange into segments and add to the middle of your cake.
That’s your Orange Drizzle Cake prepared, baked, soaked in orange juice and ready to serve!

If your a fan of the Lemon Drizzle Cake then you’ve got to give this a try, I honestly think it’ll soon become a firm favourite of yours.
I actually gave my Nan a slice of this cake when I first made it and she’s already asked me for the recipe so she could make it for her friends – that’s when you know it’s a good cake!
Don’t get me wrong, you can have this on any occasion but I just think this cake would be perfect for an afternoon tea or coffee morning – it’s super light and (sorry if this makes you cringe) moist. An absolute dream!
Let me know if you decide to make this yourself and what your thoughts are on it. Is it going to become a favourite of yours?
Sending tons of love & hugs to you all as always,
Elle xo
Lemon drizzle cake is my fave cake in all the world. Orange is one of my favourite flavours. I don’t know why I’ve never thought of doing a hybrid of the two!? I bet this tastes amazing!
